Just last week, director Matt Reeves posted a screen test of actor Robert Pattinson, our new Batman, in the superhero’s iconic costume. It was cool, but also very dark; fans couldn’t really make out much.

Now, with The Batman officially filming, images of the Batsuit in action have surfaced online, snapped while the crew was filming a sequence at the Glasgow Necropolis cemetery in Scotland. Take a look:

The first thing that’s occurred to a lot of people is: it has ears.

Second, we should point out that this probably isn’t Pattinson himself in the Batsuit; more likely it’s a stuntman. The jaw doesn’t look the same, for one thing, and the shoulders may have some extra girth for protection. Also notice the dots drawn on his face, presumably there to help special effects technicians later.

Oh, yeah, and he’s on the Batcycle!

There’s even a video:

As you may be able to tell from some of the tweets, opinion seems to be split on the look of the suit. I think it’s a bit early to pass final judgment. It looks like tactical military gear, suggesting Reeves is going for a grounded take on the hero.

But what do you think? Is this a step in the right direction or a wrongheaded move? How does it compare to Batsuits past?

The Batman hits theaters on June 25, 2021.
