Emond’s Field

"“Let the hail beat their crops into the mud, and the wind take off every roof in the district, and the wolves kill half their livestock, and they’ll roll up their sleeves and start from scratch.” – Tam al’Thor"

Out first look at the world of The Wheel of Time on Amazon will probably be Emond’s Field. The distant village is a peaceful and isolated community of farmers, traders and craftspeople. According to showrunner Rafe Judkins, the first thing the team shot was the local peddler carrying his latest stores into town.

Emond’s Field is the largest community in the region known as the Two Rivers, an expansive land far away from the nearest city. The people there concern themselves with herding sheep, agriculture, tradecraft and not much else. Even though Emond’s Fielders are stubborn to a fault, they are fiercely loyal to their own.

While quiet and even a bit boring for much of the year, in the springtime, the people of Emond’s Field hold a festival called Bel Tine, a celebration full of music, dancing and cheer. It is during this festival that the story kicks off; it may even be the centerpiece of the premiere episode. But we have an epic adventure to go on, so you know things won’t stay this peaceful for long.

The protagonists Egwene, Rand, Perrin, Nyneave and Mat have never left the farmlands of Emond’s Field before. But on this journey, they’ll encounter beautiful cities and wonders beyond anything they’d ever dreamed of.
