When does Shadow and Bone come out on Netflix?
The countdown to Shadow and Bone on Netflix has begun. The show is set to arrive on the streaming platform on April 23, 2021.
Shadow and Bone is the first book in a three-book series by Leigh Bardugo. Known as the Grisha trilogy, the story is set in a world where war has divided nations and a group of magical soldiers, the Grisha, have the ability to enact change. The problem is that with power comes the possibility of corruption and danger, and orphan Alina Starkov is about to learn the hard way that nothing is as it seems.
The Shadow and Bone cast features Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan/The Darkling), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey) and Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev).
Shadow and Bone coming to Netflix in April
Shadow and Bone is yet another feather in the Netflix cap of original content that is designed to fill the void left by Game of Thrones on HBO. To date, Netflix has added several high fantasy series like The Witcher, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Cursed. The Witcher has a large following thanks to the books and video games that came before it, and having Henry Cavill in the lead role certainly doesn’t hurt.
With so much content leaving Netflix for studio-owned streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max and Paramount+, Netflix is on a quest to find properties that it can develop into its own original series, and Shadow and Bone fits the bill perfectly.
The benefit of optioning a book to be made into a series or movie is that books (and video games) come with a ready-made fan base. All it takes is for those fans to start talking about a new show on social media and a potential hit is born.
Shadow and Bone is already getting a lot of buzz online and it stands to be the next big hit for Netflix when it comes out.
