It’s officially happening, folks: Russell Crowe is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The Gladiator himself revealed that he’s joining the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder while on the Australian radio show Joy Breakfast With The Murphys. And there could perhaps be no role more perfect than that of the god of thunder, Zeus.

The fourth Thor movie already has an impressive cast. Standbys like Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are returning. The Guardians of the Galaxy will also be around, as will Christian Bale as villain Gorr the God Butcher and Matt Damon and Melissa McCarthy in bit parts (we think) as actors. I think this rivals any Avengers team-up. What other Marvel movie has this many Academy Award winners?

It sounds like Crowe is almost done with his bit. “I’m going to get on my bicycle. I’m going to ride up to Disney Fox Studios and around about 9:15, I shall be Zeus!” he said. “It’s for Thor. It’s my last day of Zeus-ing about, and I’m going to enjoy it.”

How many gods are in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Now, the Thor movies deal with Norse mythology, whereas Zeus hails from the Greek pantheon. It looks like writer-director Taika Waititi is adding some other gods to the mix. The God Butcher’s goal is to eliminate all the gods in the MCU, so it might be a good time for them to team up.

Whether or not Marvel approved this huge reveal is unknown. Alfred Molina also revealed that he would reprise his role as Doctor Octopus in the next Spider-Man movie just the other week. Either this is all part of Marvel’s master plan or the actors are having too much fun.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on May 6, 2022.
