Is Loki getting a standalone MCU movie?

Is Loki getting a standalone movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? If wishes were fishes, my friends. Marvel fans would likely all agree that a Loki movie would be amazing, but it’s not looking very likely now that his character is dead in the present-day timeline. That’s what makes the Loki Disney+ series so special.

Marvel Studios is known for thinking ahead, and has a masterfully complex plan for its movie and series releases over the next several years. That approach helped guide the studio through the first three phases of its release strategy and it’s currently guiding them through Phase 4.

The Loki series falls into Marvel’s Phase 4 plans, but unless something changes there’s no plan for a Loki standalone movie in sight.

There’s one way a Loki standalone movie could work in the future

Avid Marvel comic book fans know that many of the characters in the Marvel universe are interchangeable. We’re starting to see that in the MCU, too. Though Steve Rogers isn’t around anymore, Captain America’s legacy lives on through Sam Wilson. Thor is about to pass the hammer to Jane Foster.

In the comics, Loki has taken many forms ,and it’s possible that when Tom Hiddleston is done with the character (which we hope is in the very distant future) he can pass the torch to a new Trickster God who might end up with a standalone movie of his or her own.

While change is always hard, a changing of the guard is part and parcel of comic books as Marvel breathes new life into characters and stories. And thanks to the malleability of comics, it’s possible for massive cosmic events to allow for the return of the “original” characters.

With each new phase of the MCU, Marvel is setting up the universe so that they can really start playing. At long last, fans are starting to see the crossovers that they were hoping for, and that means that anything is possible in the future, including a standalone MCU movie for Loki.
