The CRM comes to Fear the Walking Dead

Thanks to Althea’s relationship with Isabelle, the CRM (Civic Republic Military) helicopter was able to swoop in and rescue a big group of survivors and whisk them away to safety. At this point it’s unknown whether the pilot (presumably Isabelle) will take them to a base or if they will be taken far enough from the blast site to ensure their safety before being dropped off.

The CRM are responsible for saving Rick Grimes’ life in The Walking Dead season 9, but he hasn’t been seen since. The Walking Dead: World Beyond taught us that the CRM is willing to kill to protect itself, decimating a community of 10,000 people because they’re a “threat” to their way of life. Isabelle warned Al that the CRM is dangerous and that she shouldn’t get involved with them.

There are two ways this story plays out. On the one hand, Isabelle could have saved Al’s friends as a favor. She could drop them off and go about her business. On the other hand, this could lead to interaction between the survivors and the CRM, and perhaps the CRM becomes the villain in the future once the group knows what they’re doing.

At the moment, Fear the Walking Dead is still set before the timelines of The Walking Dead and World Beyond, so it’s not likely that any of the shows will have any crossover unless it’s some kind of prequel event. World Beyond will air its second and final season later this year and it’s possible that the Fear TWD group could meet the CRM at a pivotal moment before they appear on the other two shows.

Of course, this could also be a moment when Isabelle uses the nuclear blast as a means to escape from her life with the CRM, borrowing from Al and Dwight’s playbook to fake her death and be rid of them forever.

Needless to say, once you fly off in a CRM helicopter, even if it’s a short flight, there is no going back to where you were before. There will be questions, and only Althea and Isabelle can provide answers.
