When does The Time Traveler’s Wife show come to HBO?
The Time Traveler’s Wife is coming to HBO with Rose Leslie and Theo James in the lead roles. The series, based on a book by Audrey Niffenegger, was adapted into a feature film starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams in 2009; the HBO series will allow Clare and Henry’s story to play out over time in ways that could never be fully realized in a movie. So when does The Time Traveler’s Wife series come to HBO?
HBO picked up the rights to the series in 2018 and it has been in various stages of development since that point. Leslie (Clare) and James (Henry) were cast in February 2021, and David Nutter was announced as the director in May 2021.
The six-part series started shooting in May, with additional cast members announced in June, but as of this writing there is no premiere date set for the series.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is adapted by former Doctor Who showrunner
Steven Moffat, co-creator of Sherlock and longtime Doctor Who showrunner and writer, adapted the book for the small screen. He has been working on bringing the story to life for some time. It makes sense to have someone familiar with time travel working on the scripts because things can get a little wibbly wobbly as stories jump between the past, present and future.
The story follows Clare, a woman who grew up thinking that the person she’d see was an imaginary friend. At times he was young and other times he’d appear as an adult. When she sees him at work she feels like she’s known him throughout her life.
For Henry, his “condition” that allows him to travel time has always been precarious and nothing as sexy as the movies would have you believe. But when he started seeing Clare over and over again, it made his situation better. When she claims to know him, he’s fascinated and it leads to the kind of romance you can only dream of. The problem for Clare and Henry, of course, is that their relationship isn’t chronological because he’s moving back and forth through time, and that poses several challenges.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a perfect series for HBO because it features all of the things people love to see, wrapped up in one shiny package.
Now that production is underway, it’s possible fans will see the series premiere at the end of 2021 or the start of 2022. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
