When does The Wheel of Time season 2 air?
By WiC Staff
The first season of The Wheel of Time has officially wrapped, and it sounds like it was a big success for Amazon Studios. The ratings were strong throughout, and the company is committed to bringing all 15 of The Wheel of Time books to the screen. This is only the beginning, folks.
But how long will we have to wait to see more of Rand, Moiraine, Perrin, Egwene and the rest? Happily, not that long. While we don’t have a firm release date for The Wheel of Time season 2, we know that showrunner Rafe Judkins and his team are already shooting it. In fact, Amazon Studios executive Vernon Sanders has already seen a couple of episodes. “Rafe and the team have just shared the first few episodes of season 2, and I wish I could get those out to everyone right away,” he said recently. “They’re just, they’re great.”
It helps to have a benefactor like Amazon in your corner; not every studio could bankroll a second season of a show before they saw how well the first did. But if anybody has pockets deep enough for that kind of thing, it’s Jeff Bezos.
The Wheel of Time season 2 premiere
Fans have had to endure a lot of long breaks between seasons of their favorite fantasy shows. The Witcher is a good example. The first season of that series dropped in 2019, and it wasn’t until late this year that fans got more episodes. The Witcher season 2 was held up in part by the pandemic, but also because Netflix wasn’t ready to go immediately.
Amazon is different. They’re really pushing to become the kings of high fantasy, both with The Wheel of Time and The Lord of the Rings. If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll be watching The Wheel of Time season 2 no later than this time next year, and depending on how far along the team is, it might happen quite a bit sooner.
