Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — Paramount+ — May 5, 2022
Remember when we said there was more Star Trek to come? We weren’t lying. In addition to new seasons of Discovery and Picard, Paramount+ will premiere a brand new Star Trek series in the form of Strange New Worlds, while will star Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck as Christopher Pike, Number One and Spock respectively. This is the team from the original Star Trek pilot way back in ’60s, before even William Shatner came on board as Captain Kirk. They were reintroduced in an earlier season of Discovery and now they’re getting their own series.
Unlike Discovery and Picard, which are heavily serialized, the plan for Strange New Worlds is to keep to an adventure-of-the-week format, with every episode bringing a new planet, a new challenge, etc. It’s the kind of Star Trek show we haven’t seen for a long time.
Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount+ on May 5.
Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 — Paramount+ — 2022
Still want more Star Trek? I hope the answer is yes, because you’re getting it. Star Trek: Lower Decks, an adult animated series that takes inspiration from the Next Generation era, returns for a third season sometime in the summer. And if that still isn’t enough, the kid-friendly CG-animated series Star Trek: Prodigy is airing right now and wraps up in early February. It’ll be out later in the year.
2022 is the year of Star Trek, or so Paramount+ would have us believe. — Dan
