We’re just one short month away from the premiere of Seven Kings Must Die, Netflix’s new The Last Kingdom movie which is set to finish out the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg. It’s been quite a journey for Uhtred, the Saxon who was raised as a Dane and spent his life fighting to reclaim his ancestral home. We finally saw Uhtred’s dream realized in the season 5 finale, but he has more to do before finally hanging up his sword.

Seven Kings Must Die is a two hour standalone film set to adapt events from Bernard Cornwell’s last three Saxon Stories novels. Obviously it won’t be able to cover all three books in one movie, so we’re guessing there’ll be quite a lot of shuffling things around to make it all work. But one thing we’re definitely expecting is for there to be a big battle, with some of the titular seven kings making their own power plays in the wake of King Edward’s death.

First look at Ingilmundr from The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die

There’s quite a bit of conjecture floating around about who exactly the seven kings from the title are, but we may have just gotten a look at the first. The official Last Kingdom Twitter account shared a first-look image of Ingilmundr, a new character who will make his debut in the movie. We’re not one hundred percent certain who’s playing him yet, but based on Cornwell’s books we’re expecting him to have an important role in the movie.

Ingilmundr is a Danish leader who makes his first appearance in War of the Wolf, the eleventh of Cornwell’s books (out of a total of 13). His influence is felt up through to the end of the series, where has a hand in tragic events that effect Uhtred’s family. I’m guessing we might end up hating this guy before all is said and done.

The Last Kingdom Twitter also released a look at another character who will feature in the movie, and this one we can say without a doubt is one of the seven kings from the title: King Constantin, ruler of Alba (Scotland). First appearing in season 5, Contantin (Rod Hallett) is a canny leader who has already made one attempt to upset the balance in Northumbria. Has he been holding a grudge since his defeat at Bebbanburg? What will inspire to take up a sword and shield this time?

We’ll find out when The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die premieres on Netflix on April 14. In the meantime, keep an eye on this space and The Last Kingdom Twitter account. We’ve still got at least five more kings to meet.
