Is season 7 the last season of Outlander?

The Revolutionary War looms on Outlander. Soon we’ll be back with Claire, Jaime, and the rest of the Fraser family as they face one of their biggest challenges yet. Season 7 of Outlander will have a whopping 16 episodes; the first run of eight debut this summer, while the second batch hits sometime in 2024. Season 6 may have been shorter than usual for Outlander, but season 7 will more than make up for it.

Given the size of the season as well as its epic subject matter, you might be wondering if this is the end of the road for the Frasers. Read on…

Is this Outlander’s final season?

We’re happy to report that Outlander will continue on after season 7. Earlier this year, Starz renewed Outlander for an eighth and final season. So no matter how intense things get in season 7, we’ve got one more adventure with the Frasers after that to look forward to.

This does present an interesting question, though: how will the end of Outlander differ from the novels by Diana Gabaldon? As of this writing, Gabaldon is still hard at work on the tenth and final Outlander book. Season 7 is expected to primarily cover the seventh book of the series, An Echo in the Bone, as well as some material from the previous novel which had to be pushed back from season 6. That leaves three more books to adapt in season 8, and given that the show has more or less stuck to one book per season, it’s pretty unlikely that it’ll try to cram everything in.

It’s an interesting situation, and we’ll be curious to see how Outlander handles it. Luckily we don’t need to worry about it for a while yet! Outlander season 7 premieres June 16 on Starz.
