Nikolaj Coster-Waldau confirms two more days of shooting

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stopped by the morning show Good Day New York today to promote his new film, Mama. In addition to discussing the supernatural thriller, Nikolaj also confirmed he had kept his beard because Game of Thrones is doing more filming next week.

“The thing is we have to shoot two more days next week in Los Angeles. For the first time we shoot there because there’s the one character that can’t leave this country. So we have to come and shoot there because usually we shoot Game of Thrones in Europe. Yeah that’s why I still have this.”

Ours is the Fury: I think it’s likely Nikolaj meant someone was occupied with filming in Los Angeles already and couldn’t take the time off to film additional scenes overseas.

Also, I know NCW is handsome, but lord, have some dignity, people. The beard-rubbing, my god!

I would rub his beard. Who cares about dignity when he’s sitting right there and okay with beard-rubbing?
Also, it’s a PG-13 film with no gore, violence or profanity in the clip, and I said it was a supernatural thriller, so I assume you weren’t traumatized.

So why can’t the character leave the country? Is it a legal issue? I’m very curious. Racking my brain and trying to think of reasons for this.

Or, is it more likely that they need to do some last-second reshoots, and rather than having to go back to Belfast it’s just faster to fly NCW in to LA and shoot with the actor involved.

Sorry for my initial rude reaction, but some people ARE easily freaked out by Horror movies. The fact that he was in this show to talk about one does not imply that the interview involves clips from the movie. At least one would have expected the interviewer to announce “And here’s a clip from Nicolajs new movie”, so that one can abort the clip.
Oh, and concerning PG 13: Here are some examples for other Horror movies that are PG 13:

    The Ring
    Poltergeist
    Jaws
    The Sixth Sense

    Peter,

FWIW, Jaws and Poltergeist are both rated PG and pre-date the existence of the PG-13 rating which came about because of violence in movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Poltergeist and Gremlins. Red Dawn was the first movie released with a PG-13. Though, iirc, there were a few other movies actually rated PG-13 first but they weren’t released until after Red Dawn.

Hmmm, maybe some scenes with a trained bear to fill in earlier reported Bearpit scenes?
I doubt a trained bear could go overseas! XD

Joking aside, I am very puzzled indeed by the idea of some actor (US actor or Brit filming here) not being able to get out the UK/ Europe…. No one I know is cast comes to mind as having a role in a US series filming now in LA, but I do not follow every series of course.

If the bear idea is right, then Gwendoline Christie would probably need to be in L.A. right now. Is she?

But really, I would imagine they have plenty of trained bears in Europe. I have to admit that I assumed he meant a cast member who couldn’t leave the U.S. right now for legal reasons. (Impending court case or something.)

I think the most likely candidates would be Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage, as they both have lucrative careers based in the US, they both have obvious connections to Coster-Waldau’s character, and they both have enough “pull” as actors to warrant filming revolving around them.

Ser Lemon Cakes, I think you’re right about that. Looks like they moved up Jaime’s arrival so he can get some closure to his story this year rather than be a loose end. There’s no essential plot reason why Jaime can’t be at the PW I guess, though the purist in me irrationally hates the idea.

I was half joking about the bear, although I know there is a large trained animal segment in California…

I was thinking that Gwen would he to be out in LA i it’s true also..
I have no idea where she is honestly.

I suspect it is an actor that does not have time in their shooting schedule to travel to the UK/ Europe….. I had not tought of legal issues or maybe they would be unable to get the UK work permit in the short time frame needed to do the shoot?

Dinklage and Headey both have projets n post production so they may fit the bill. I don’t know the details of their projects though so they could be completed for all I know….

If it’s a legal matter that is keeping someone in LA, I believe Lena Heady lives in LA and she is going through a divorce. That may be the who and why and maybe she can’t leave the country, if there is a custody dispute going on and she has to be available for legal proceedings.

If they have Jaime return to King’s Landing for the PW, it IS a huge change in his storyline, which at the moment hinges on whether or not he is sincere in his desire to help Sansa. It is important that he got back to KL too late to do anything for her (i.e., after she had already fled, i.e., AFTER the PW), and changing that could have very problematic implications for how they handle his confrontation with Cat/Lady Stoneheart, as well as the dynamic of his relationship with Brienne, which is based in large part on the fact that she is the one person who is seeing the better, more sincere side of his personality, that is genuinely trying to keep his “oath” to Cat

Yeah that was such a high point for me reading that book. I was so happy and GRRM set us up so good for that line. Brienne really showed Jaime how powerful and respectable honor is and she totally earned his respect and admiration. From that point on IMHO I think Jaime did some self reflection and decided to lead a life of honor.

Also, when Dany spoke the words and her dragons burnt that slavers face off and she freed the unsullied. I had to put the book down and walk around smiling and cheering. I think D&D may have used that “dracarys” line from Dany a little prematurly in season 2. It will have less impact now when she uses it to burn the slaver, people will see it coming now. But oh man I can’t wait for that scene. Dany is going to kickass this season!

Not only would bringing Jamie in before the PW affect his promise to Catelyn about Sansa, it would completely change the Tyrion trial and escape after. I can’t see them shifting the storyline THAT drastically. For two days it’s probably nothing major- maybe the scene at the inn where the keeper tries to trick them?

Well if the filming is really between him and Lena, than I guess we can assume that RW happens much earlier. It isn’t entirely unlikely that we could see it in episode seven, which GRRM wrote so I’m sure that will come as a relief to some of you skeptics. And as a result, we could PW in episode nine and Jamie’s arrival in episode ten. The only problem with this is that RW serves as a waaaay better climax to the season and it being premature kind of diminishes its impact.

After reading all comments then re-reading the quote, I think it is a character who cannot leave the country–like at all. He says he has to go to LA bc there’s one character who can’t leave the US–sounds like he could mean like ever. Makes me think its the bear.

Peter and Lena’s films are not in LA except 1, which usin post, so not filming. Yes reshoots etc., but I don’t think it’s that. Lena’s court proceedings make sense, but doesn’t sound like it couldn’t have happened sooner. Plus 2 days is short.

So fingers crossed that its the bear or some other character who isn’t a KL character! Of course, it could still be a KL character like Lena etc, but really hoping not!

It also makes sense that it’s the bear because he said “a character” that can’t leave the country. If it was a person, he would have just said an actor/actress, unless he was being just ridiculously careful not to mention gender – most actors aren’t that cautious in interviews and actor can refer to someone of either gender these days anyway.

The dream suggestion is an interesting possibility, but again, why now? Couldn’t they have filmed that ages ago when they filmed everything else?

    Nick_Scryer,

Who says she is going to LA to film scenes for GOT? I know fans love to speculate, but having Jaime in KL for the PW where Sansa is present and Joffrey goes out of his way to humiliate Tyrion makes zero sense. Which is why it won’t happen.

    Nick_Scryer,

Was trying to be so strong about possible book changes, but this is giving me serious heartburn. Would be a disaster for Jaime’s characterization.

    Nick_Scryer,

Is it possible that they are just doing multiple pickup shots in LA?
Maybe NCW is thre to do a scene with Headey like a Jaime fever dream and then they are also doing a separate KL scene with Shae and Cersei or Shae and Tyrion?

I’m not sure we can assume all parties filming in LA will be in the same single scene…..

Kekilli isn’t in LA at the same time as the filming NCW mentioned. According to her public Facebook fan page, she went on a road trip from LA to Las Vegas to San Francisco. She could have been in LA for work before her trip started, but she left California two days ago and Nikolaj said they were filming “Two days next week.”
I think worrying over her presence is pointless. It’s unconnected.

Showing I’m a bit obsessed with this, I would note that WIC’s newest post demonstrates that NCW and Gwen Christie ARE both in LA, as of last night. Hopeful re: bear.

    M,

Ah ha! This definitely lends support to the bear theory.

Even more importantly, none of the usual King’s Landing’s suspects, like Headey, Dinklage, or Turner, are mentioned. KEEP THEM AWAY FROM KL, I say.
