Nathalie Emmanuel, the actress who portrays Daenerys Targaryen’s handmaiden, Missandei, on Game of Thrones, would like her inevitable death on the show to be appropriately heroic. The actress admitted to BANG Showbiz that she’s accepted the fact that her character could be killed off the show at any time, saying:
"If I do die I’d want it to be something really cool – something that will make everyone cry. It would have to be something really heroic, like she sacrifices herself to save someone else, or she suddenly learns how to be an amazing swordsman and dies in an epic battle. That could be fun."
We almost saw this exact scene played out in Episode 9 of Season 5, “The Dance of Dragons,” when she and Dany held hands, resigned to their fate, before Drogon swooped in and saved them all. At that moment, both she and Dany had decided not to go to their deaths full of fear, but had bravely accepted the fact that there would be no escape — no last minute intervention—which certainly sounds stoic, if not down right heroic.
Emmanuel also commented on Jon Snow’s unexpected and seemingly permanent death, noting that if it could happen to Jon, it could happen to anyone. With Missandei and Greyworm acting as advisers to Tyrion, who is ruling Meereen in Dany’s absence, next season, maybe the actress is right to feel nervous about her character’s fate. Meereen still has the Sons of the Harpy to deal with, and with the two remaining dragons locked away, there might not be a last minute rescue in the cards if the situation turns dire for Missandei in Season 6.
