Game of Thrones Cast Invades Conan, Kills it

As you may have heard, a little event called the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has been happening this week, and yesterday, the cast of Game of Thrones—some of them, at least—hosted a Panel in Hall H. Now, the general consensus among fans, both those in attendance and those following along at home via live-blogs like ours, was that the event was lacking. There were no new casting announcements, as has been the norm for Game of Thrones SDCC panels, there were no new casting locations announced, nor were there any questions of any sort of consequence asked or answered by the fans or panelists.

The cast did have one last chance to make the most of their trip to beautiful San Diego when they joined Conan O’Brien on his latenight show. However, before the Game of Thrones cast could take the stage, they had to wait on three members of my second favorite television show, The Walking Dead. But as soon as Daryl, Michonne, and Glenn exited stage left, Westeros took over, and the show was amazing. Check out part one.

As you can see, Conan has a pretty good grasp on the goings on of the show, as he navigates the questions like a true fan. I particularly liked Alfie Allen’s story about how the writers pranked him with his death. Also, apparently, Maisie Williams is a giant suck-up to the writers so she won’t die. Here’s part two.

Poor John Bradley—that “why are you still so fat?” question was so rude. I’m glad he’s got the wit and humor to deal with jerks like that. Also, did anyone else notice how many times Hannah Murray put her hand on John’s shoulder? I’ll say it: I’m shipping John and Hannah. I also enjoyed the fact that, at age 15, Sophie Turner’s parents sat her down to talk about the birds and the bees, and her response was, “I’m on Game of Thrones! I think I have it all sussed out.”

Then there’s Maisie Williams nearly missing out on her Game of Thrones audition because she wanted to go on a school trip to a pig farm. Also, we learned that Natalie Dormer is a self-proclaimed nerd, an assertion she backed up by showing off her Dune tattoo. I now love Natalie Dormer more than ever.

The cast interviews weren’t the only Game of Thrones-inspired happenings during last night’s Conan. The Team Coco (Conan’s brand) crew put together two quite hilarious skits. The first involved a hidden camera in the house of George R.R. Martin, and the other was a weather report from Conan’s sidekick Andy Richter.

Does this make up for not having a new casting announcement? No, but it sure was fun, and I’m glad that Conan O’Brien had an interesting talk with some of our favorite cast members
