Game of Thrones is looking to cast a Spanish infant for Season 6

Modexpor Internacional, the casting agency that’s been responsible for finding extras in Spain for Game of Thrones Season 6, has posted an intriguing new message to its Facebook page, putting out a call for infants for one day of shooting. Roughly translated, the pertinent parts of the message read as follows:

"To shoot at Peñiscola from 2 to 6 October (only one day)We are looking for:– babies from 9 to 12 months (also twins)– Kids between 8 to 14 years"

There are also instructions on how to submit your children for the mystery roles should you have any on hand. Head to Modexpor’s page for specifics.

Now, true, the post doesn’t actually mention Game of Thrones, but Modexpor has been HBO’s go-to company for casting Season 6 extras for months now—the company has rounded up hopefuls in Almería, Tudela, and Girona—and it has an image of the battle at Daznak’s Pit as the header on its Facebook page. Also, the casting will take place in Peñiscola, where thousands turned out for a chance to be an extra in Season 6 around a month ago. The signs seem pretty clear.

The next question is more interesting: what does the production need babies and kids for? Since they’re looking for just any kids, I’m thinking that they’ll be local color, little urchins who’ll run around the streets of Oldtown or wherever. The call for babies seems more specific, though.

At first glance, the mention of twins made me think that we would be flashing back to Cersei and Jaime’s infancy, but realistically, twins are just good to have on hand from a practical perspective. There are strict restrictions concerning how babies are to be treated on film sets, so having two identical ones gives directors twice the filming time.

So what does the production need with a baby? Maybe it’s recasting Gilly’s child, who’s probably grown past the point where he can play a convincing infant. Maybe we’ll see a newborn Jon Snow in that rumored flashback to the fight at the Tower of Joy, or perhaps we’ll catch up with the creepy wight baby from the header image. We’ll keep an eye out for any infant-related news as it arises.
