Bigpoint is hiring people to work on its Game of Thrones MMORPG
By Dan Selcke
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms, the browser-based massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) being developed by German studio Bigpoint in conjunction with HBO. The last time we saw a trailer for the game was all the way back in July of 2012, at which point the studio projected the game would be released sometime in 2013. Obviously, something went amiss in the meantime, although we’re not sure what.
People could be forgiven for thinking that the game had been cancelled, but it appears that it’s still inching toward completion. According to Developer, a European site that reports on the videogame industry, Bigpoint is looking to fill several positions, including ones for Senior Game Designer, Senior Technical Artist, and Lead Artist 3D. Per Developer, some of the people hired for these jobs will work on Seven Kingdoms, so if you’re a technology professional living in Germany, feel free to have at it.
If Bigpoint is looking to fill such high-level positions this late in the game’s development cycle, it seems the studio ran into some difficulties at some point, although we probably could have guessed that based on the fact that the game just disappeared from public view for years. Still, Game of Thrones is a major cash cow for HBO, so it makes sense that the network doesn’t want to give up on the game. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any more news.
