Theon is definitely returning to the Iron Islands—It’s a Greyjoy Family Reunion in Ireland

With all the filming news and spoilers coming out of Ireland this week, Alfie Allen isn’t trying to hide the fact that he really is filming scenes on the Iron Islands. He’s even getting coffee with Yara Greyjoy. That’s a real turn around from their last meeting.

It’s been really confusing to everyone as to whether or not Allen was actually in the area. We were told since the first day that he was there, but the pictures made it hard to tell who was who. Every day, reports continued to confirm he was around, and Irish Thrones reported that, although he is staying at a port about ten minutes away from Ballintoy, there was no filming at that port, which makes for the obvious conclusion that Allen was filming stuff for the Iron Islands.

This is mindblowing for book readers like myself. Even though much of the Jeyne Poole storyline changed last season, what with the insertion of Sansa into her role, Theon’s struggle to come back to himself was more or less faithful to the novels. And although Season 5 ended with Theon and Sansa leaping from the walls of Winterfell, that’s not any different from what happens to Theon in the books.

With Stannis’ death, there’s nothing keeping Sansa and Theon from running as far away from Winterfell as possible, so it would be easy to accept that Theon finds his way home and that Sansa goes her own way, maybe to reconnect with whatever major plot threads she deviated from last season. And yet! I am totally shocked by this new spoiler. Theon is going home, guys! How does he get there? How do they respond to his being there? Is it Yara who finds him in the snow? (Their reunion in Stannis’ camp is actually a lovely moment. I hope the show finds a way to preserve it.) How does he leave Sansa? Why does he leave Sansa? Where does Sansa GO?

If Theon goes home, will there still need to be a Kingsmoot given that he’s his father’s obvious heir? Will his, ahem, unmanned condition somehow make it so he cannot inherit? More importantly, since he’s headed to the Iron Islands, and now can take up a role in the Ironborn plot to control Dany’s dragons, where does he go from here?

And how does Euron feel about all this?

Good to know! I look forward to seeing him in an eyepatch.
