More Details of Game of Thrones Filming in Almería

Game of Thrones begins its final leg of filming in Spain this weekend. With only hours until the production starts shooting in the first of several locations in Almería, actors are starting to filter into the area, while details about filming trickle out.

The restaurant was so excited to see Iain Glenn, it got his character name slightly wrong (John instead of Jorah.) But its heart was in the right place.

This is the most activity we’ve seen in the El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla area, as the trucks that rolled out of Peñíscola turn up in the next location.

Meanwhile, the second location on the Almería schedule, the Mesa Roldan, reportedly is getting a good scrubbing prior to filming. Ideal.es is reporting that the production is going to great lengths to clean up all of the graffiti that has accumulated around, and sometimes on, the historical lookout tower, over the decades.

The publication has also learned that the original reports of hundreds of extras for this scene has been drastically cut back. When filming commences here on the 18th, the plan is for seven or so principle cast members to work here, along with about 50 or so extras. Ideal.es  is also under the impression that only one scene will be filmed here. What exactly that scene is, and who those seven cast members are, is still a mystery. Team Meereen would have been seven if they were all together (Dany, Tyrion, Varys, Daario, Jorah, Missandei, Grey Worm), but unless this is the big reunion, that’s probably out. That suggests this could be a Westerosi location. We do know there are Dornish scenes that are supposed to happen this season, but we haven’t seen any of those actors, or even heard word of them filming. (In fact, the entire production has gone rather mum on Dorne since it went over like a lead balloon last season.) Perhaps this is meant for them?

While we ponder that, let’s say goodbye to those who were filming in Peñíscola.
