Game of Thrones Season 6 Filming Location Revealed: Tabernas Desert

With filming in El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla finished, today is a day off for the show before it rolls on to the next location. But as we noted back when the Almeria schedule was released a couple of weeks ago, the 16th and 17th were a bit of a scheduling hole. We had two locations that we had confirmed as part of Season 6 filming: Sorbas and the Tabernas desert, but neither of them was listed in the dates reported. One of them probably was happening in the gap, but we weren’t sure which.

Now we know. As reported by Melty.es, tomorrow, the show will be filming in the Tabernas desert, and though Los Siete Reinos seemed to think that filming on the 17th would have a huge number of extras dressed as Meereenese slaves, Melty says that’s incorrect. There will be hundreds of extras involved (400 or so, according to their report.) But they will not be Meereenese. Instead, the scene the production is filming is the arrival of the Dothraki horde (or perhaps the leave-taking?) at Vaes Dothrak, through the desert landscape.

We should learn more tomorrow when filming happens. Then from there it’s on to the Mesa Roldán, which is scheduled to film on the 18th and 19th.
