Support a Game of Thrones rock & roll concept album, and other curiosities
By Dan Selcke
When Game of Thrones fans get creative, there are few limits to what they come up with. Take, for example, rock & roll singer Haley Bowery, who fronts a punk group in New York City called The Manimals. Bowery has decided to make a rock & roll concept album about Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. The album will be called Seven, and will consist of seven songs told from the perspective of seven different characters (Daenerys, Jon Snow, Arya, Cersei, Tyrion, Brienne, and Bran). She’s hoping to have it out before the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 6, and is soliciting donations on Patreon.
I heartily endorse this project. Here’s Bowery on what people can expect from the album:
"There is some universal aspect to all of the journeys these characters go on- you don’t need to literally be a brother of the Night’s Watch to understand Jon’s struggle to do both what’s honorable and what’s right. I didn’t want to make any of the songs so literal that they couldn’t be appreciated out of context.Yeah, there’s wordplay and loads of clever literary references, but every song is also emotionally honest, affectionate, and true to the characters. No creepy fan fiction or parodies. I genuinely love this story. This is an irony-free zone!"

Speaking of Game of Thrones-related fundraising, remember a while back when Bono auctioned off a trip to visit the Season 7 set as part of an effort to raise money for AIDS research? The company he did that through, Omaze, has one more experience on the docket…sort of.
What will you do if you win this experience? To quote the Omaze page, “Hodor Hodor Hodor Hodor.” Who will be involved? Again, “Hodor Hodor Hodor Hodor.” It’s fundraising humor with a Hodor spin.
Finally, Game of Thrones turned up during a political crossfire recently, as it tends to do from time to time. This time, it has to do with an upcoming parliamentary election in Australia. According to The Sunday Morning Herald, several high-profile federal members of parliament (MPs) face preselection challenges, meaning they could be out of office sooner than planned. “It’s threatening to put the Game of Thrones’ Red Wedding scene in the shade,” said one senior member of the NSW party.
So there you go—Game of Thrones crosses over to rock & roll, fundraising, and politics. Next stop: robotics.
