Sophie Turner Makes Appearance in X-Men Super Bowl Commercial

The Super Bowl has come and gone. Despite those who insisted that the fight of a century would be happening on our screens (between the startlingly well-preserved Peyton Manning and upstart Cam Newton), the field was surprisingly devoid of White Walkers or sword battles. The commercials were similarly lacking in any sort of sword or sorcery. And anyone who might have hoped for counter-programming in the form of a Game of Thrones Season 6 trailer was sorely disappointed.

But one Thrones actress did make it on TV during one of the most-watched network television programs that will run this year: Sophie Turner, who is slated to star as a young Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, the third X-Men film starring the new crop of actors that first turned up in X-Men: First Class. (At this point, it’s basically the second X-Men series, since once you’ve into the third or fourth installment of a reboot, they can stand on their own.) The new trailer for Apocalypse that aired post-Beyonce was one of the very few reasons to watch the second half of a game that was clearly already going to adhere to the narrative set by the NFL.

Judging by the excitement on Twitter for this installment after the trailer aired, Turner might have made her way into a successful outing of the franchise. It helps that she and the other young cast members will be going up against Apocalypse, who is not only the metaphorical personification of the end of the world, but one of the most popular antagonists of the series. (Apologies to Peter Dinklage, who played the antagonist in the last installment, Days of Future Past. Next time, try and get cast as an evil blue character. Or at least a stylish helmet.)

Also, longtime football fan weighed in on Super Bowl 50 over on his Not a Blog. “The game was sloppy, with way too many turnovers, and a dearth of heroics on the offensive side of the ball.” Ouch. He was a fan of the Broncos’ defensive game, though.
