Coster Waldau was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to promote his latest project, Gods of Egypt, which opens this coming Thursday the 25th in the U.S. As per usual, conversation turned to Game of Thrones swiftly and mercilessly. How many ways can the GoT production tell us that “Jon Snow Is Dead?” Well, it turns out that, if you’re Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, you just bring it up in conversation to head off the inevitable questions.
Whenever I meet someone, I just say ‘Jon Snow is dead.’ Sometimes of course, I’m in a shop and the poor person there just says, ‘Yeah it’ll be $12.50 please.’
Pro tip: Wait to spew the HBO-mandated company line about a character’s so-called fate until after paying for your purchases, please.
Kimmel, of course, is not going to be so easily put off by this, and continues to insist that Jon Snow being brought back to life was perfectly in keeping with the weird and wacky world of Westeros. Perhaps he hoped to see if he could get Coster-Waldau to amend his statement with a qualification. “He’s dead right now,” or something like that. No dice. Coster-Waldau:
You have a good point. Spoiler: at the end of season 5, he’s dead.
With that out of the way, Coster Waldau moved on to more important things: his new movie. And Sesame Street, obviously.
“Thank you for all your entertainment with your political process. It’s fascinating to follow.” Spoken like a true European.
