The Jean-Cocteau Cinema will hold a Game of Thrones Season 5 marathon…for free!

I hope people in Santa Fe realize what an awesome resource they have in the Jean Cocteau Cinema, the movie theater owned by Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin. Apart from showing a cool mix of recent hits (e.g. Mad Max: Fury RoadThe Martian), classics (coming soon: Ran), and more esoteric fare (also coming soon: Awakening in Taos), it hosts some really cool events that could only be planned by the guy behind Game of Thrones. Case in point: before the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 6, the theater will be showing a Season 5 marathon. And what’s more: entry is free!

This info comes from Martin’s Not a Blog. I’ll let him give the specifics:

"Oh, and GAME OF THRONES season six is drawing nigh as well. You may have heard. Before the season six debut on April 24, the JCC will be running a season five marathon. Weekly screenings, two hours per week, of the S5 episodes on our bigmedium-sized screen. And admission is FREE. First come, first seated."

I know some fans can get antsy about Martin spending time on side projects like the Jean Cocteau, but if I lived in Santa Fe, I’d want him to keep making with the awesome programming.

Incidentally, Martin just returned from MystiCon, a sci-fi convention in Roanoke, VA that he’d been planning to attend for a long time. “After all the internet rancor that has dominated on-line discussion of late, it was good to be reminded of what cons are all about… and how warm, welcoming, and open fandom can be,” he wrote. Sounds like he’s in good spirits. Onward and upward.
