Dragons crash land across America in celebration of the Game of Thrones Season 5 boxset

It looks like Drogon might be needing to start teaching flying lessons to his fantastical lizard brethren.

As we reported last week, to celebrate today’s release of the Game of Thrones Season 5  Blu-ray and DVD boxsets, New York City’s Union Square was going to undergo some sort of transformation for a “Secret Special Event.” We can now reveal what that event entails. And it’s proof that when the dragon meets the road, more than potholes ensue.

Yes, that’s the crash site for a dragon who, according the the press release, is “marking his territory” in both New Union Square and in Los Angeles on the West Coast at Hollywood & Highland.

Then, at Herald Square (not that far from Union) there will be a special screening of “The Dance of Dragons,” a 20-minute animated featurette from the Game of Thrones Season 5 bonus features. Narrated by the likes of Kerry Ingram, Harry Lloyd, and Pedro Pascal, this featurette tells the backstory of the Targaryen civil war that Shireen was reading about while on the road to Winterfell with her father. (For those who aren’t going to get there, it’s bundled in with this video of the Complete Histories and Lore that leaked from the upcoming DVDs yesterday.)

At the end of it, those in attendence will get to see dragons actually taking flight across the city. For those lucky to see the dragon fly across NYC or LA, the hashtag to post your photos alongside is #GOT5DVD.

From there, the “dragon” will be making stops in Dilworth Plaza, City Hall in Philadelphia, PA on March 16, and then at Pier 39 in San Francisco, CA on March 17. Let us know if you see them!
