Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Admits Lannister Incest “Feels Wrong”

If it’s the beginning of spring, then it’s only a few months to Comic Con season. With so many competing events all over the world, the larger scale ones are already announcing their high profile guests. And it doesn’t get much more high profile than the stars of Game of Thrones.

Yesterday, the Middle East Comic Con, which is the largest of its kind the region, announced its slate of guests, via Variety. The Dubai-based event will feature WWE stars, a former Firefly actor, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister). What a perfect opportunity to explain why it’s ok for a white dude to play an Egyptian god to people who live a little closer to Egypt!

I shouldn’t be so hard on Coster-Waldau—it’s the producers who offered him the part. Besides, he’s a sensitive guy. In talking about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones recently to Red Bulletin (which is in Danish, so here’s the English report on it via the New Zealand Herald), he was asked if there were any scenes either in earlier seasons, or in the upcoming one, that were difficult to film. Apparently the answer is “quite a few,” especially when it comes to incest with his twin sister Cersei, played by Lena Headey. Apparently, he squirms when it’s time for “kissing scenes.” And he’s not alone in that either. They both do.

Lena Headey is brilliant as Cersei… We know each other so well now that it feels weird every time when we have to do a kissing scene. So as soon as they yell cut we make faces of disgust, not seriously. But it does feel a bit wrong.

That “a bit wrong” will follow them into Season 6, as the trailer already revealed that twin-on-twin action is on the docket. And with their matching haircuts, it’s a pretty sure bet that the “having sex with themselves” factor will induce quite a bit of squirming. Let’s just hope this time it isn’t in front of their child’s dead body in the middle of the Sept. Myrcella deserves better.
