When talking about the show recently, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) said that the incestuous scenes with Cersei are the parts that weird him out the most. According to Lena Headey, who plays his incestuous love interest Cersei Lannister, it’s only going to get weirder.
In another nugget dropped by Entertainment Weekly, which has been uploading some great stuff lately, Headey said that this is probably the most “interesting” season when it comes to the relationship between Cersei and Jaime. “Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level,” she said. Of the upcoming episodes, she added: “It’s juicy, and it’s so f**king dark.”
Cersei has certainly been to dark places since Jaime last saw her. Jaime’s return to King’s Landing is actually one of the things I’m really looking forward to this season. As Martin warned early on, each small choice by the production would eventually lead to major divergences from the books, and this is one of those instances. The choices the show made—sending Jaime to Dorne last season while Cersei went up against the High Sparrow, having Myrcella die outright instead of being disfigured—are going to take these characters somewhere they haven’t gone in the books.
According to Headey, living through the Walk of Shame has put Cersei in a position of strength, though that might seem counter-intuitive. Her philosophy is based on the idea that once you hit rock bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up.
She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in.
And with Jaime by her side for at least the first half of the season in King’s Landing, she’s going to be calling on him to help put her plans into motion. What are those plans, exactly? Well, we’ll have to wait and find out.
