With the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere only days away, it’s an intense time to be a fan. Let us relax you with these Game of Thrones-themed funnies. First up, Emilia Clarke showed up as a presenter on this past weekend’s MTV Movie Awards, and showed a surprising ability with impressions.
She kinda stole the show, honestly.
Next, Joffrey Baratheon sings Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” And note that I didn’t say that actor Jack Gleeson sings “Bad Blood.” He’s definitely channeling Joffrey here, and it’s about as unsettled as you’d expect, if that’s possible.
On a slightly less creepy note, Sophie Turner went on Conan and talked about a time at Comic Con when…well, just watch.
Next, there are a surprising number of parodies coming from Indian media. Game of Thrones is popular in India, so much so that reports of an Indian remake of the show persist, so maybe this shouldn’t come as a shock. First, this video asks the question: what if actors broke down the first trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6 in the style of ’90s newscasters on Doordarshan, India’s government-run broadcaster?
I’m sure there are lots of references I’m not getting here, but I still find the stilted delivery and odd images pretty funny. This next one is more straightforward: Indian soap opera Sasural Simar Ka has straight up ripped off Game of Thrones in a new ad. Observe:
I mean, that’s some blatant thieving right there. There’s litigation in the air.
Finally, video platform Vid Angel revealed why Game of Thrones has so much salacious content: the budget isn’t big enough. Obviously.
This felt like the kind of thing that could have gotten overly smarmy, but it’s pretty clear the people who made it pay attention to the controversies surrounding the show (“That’s where the mutual consent happens!”), so I dug it.
