See Arya’s Big Decision (Video)

Arya’s been a lot of people during her time on Game of Thrones. She’s been Lady Arya Stark. She’s been Arry. She’s been Nan The Cupbearer. She’s been a random boy on the road. She’s been Cat of the Canals and Blind Beth. And now, she’s desperately trying to prove she’s No One, and get back into the Faceless Men’s good graces. But did she succeed?

Are you bringing me spoilers?

It’s been striking how much the show has streamlined down Arya’s story with the Face less Men to telegraph how much she has been unable to become No One. In the novels, at this point, we are unsure how Arya will ever come back to herself, let alone return to King’s landing. Rumors even posit that if she does return to King’s Landing it will be as a Faceless Man, sent to kill someone she knows, and maybe even loves.

But the show seems to be having none of that. Last week, watching Arya watch her “father’s” faux execution was enough for the entire audience to understand that Arya’s pretense of being “No One” is only skin deep. And despite her first assignment be a literal stand in proxy for the woman she would most love to kill in King’s Landing, we could see her wavering, badly.

But she couldn’t really not go through with another assassination, could she? She couldn’t really fail twice in a row, would she?

At first it looked like she wouldn’t…..

…but then she changed her mind. She would become Mercy and travel with the players.

Too bad the Faceless Men were already on to her, and the Waif saw it all.

Disappointed, but not surprised.

This isn’t going to go well. Though it looks like we now know *how* Arya gets to the Mercy chapter in The Winds of Winter and into the role of Sansa.
