Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire make great subject for fan films. There are a ton of stories in George R.R. Martin’s world, too many for HBO to get to, so fan filmmakers are there to pick up the slack. (For example, feel free to check out Paul Suda’s fan film about the events at the Tower of Joy.) Also, it’s theoretically easier to make a Game of Thrones fan film than, say, a Star Wars fan film, since the former doesn’t require as many special effects (not that that stops the intrepid editors of the internet).
The Game of Thrones fans at Wild Wolf Films are almost ready to debut one such fan film, appropriately titled The Wild Wolf. It tells the story of the youthful duel between Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish and Ned Stark’s older brother Brandon, who was long dead when the show proper began.
The story was mentioned on the show, but there wasn’t time to go into much detail. Quickly, before she married Ned, Catelyn Tully was engaged to Brandon. She was happy with the match, but Littlefinger, who grew up at Riverrun alongside the Tully siblings as a ward of their father, Hoster, was jealous. He challenged Brandon to a duel, despite Brandon being several years older. What happened next? That’s the subject of the film. Watch the trailer.
The Wild Wolf will be released on August 31. We’ll be on the lookout for it. For more, head to The Wild Wolf film page.
