Catelyn Stark Featured Game of Thrones General

Trailer for “The Wild Wolf,” a Game of Thrones fan film about Brandon Stark

Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire make great subject for fan films. There are a ton of stories in George R.R. Martin’s world, too many for HBO to get to, so fan filmmakers are there to pick up the slack. (For example, feel free to check out Paul Suda’s fan film about the events at the Tower of Joy.) Also, it’s theoretically easier to make a Game of Thrones fan film than, say, a Star Wars fan film, since the former doesn’t require as many special effects (not that that stops the intrepid editors of the internet).

The Game of Thrones fans at Wild Wolf Films are almost ready to debut one such fan film, appropriately titled The Wild Wolf. It tells the story of the youthful duel between Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish and Ned Stark’s older brother Brandon, who was long dead when the show proper began.

The story was mentioned on the show, but there wasn’t time to go into much detail. Quickly, before she married Ned, Catelyn Tully was engaged to Brandon. She was happy with the match, but Littlefinger, who grew up at Riverrun alongside the Tully siblings as a ward of their father, Hoster, was jealous. He challenged Brandon to a duel, despite Brandon being several years older. What happened next? That’s the subject of the film. Watch the trailer.

The Wild Wolf will be released on August 31. We’ll be on the lookout for it. For more, head to The Wild Wolf film page.

  • Wonder how they’ll get away with doing this.. Surely George can’t be too happy about it, if he knows. Not that I’d be the one to tell him. I wonder how you get around copyright issues in these situations?

  • Looks good, I’ll be watching for sure. The actors look well cast for the roles and how I’d picture them.

  • I cant make up my mind…. Is it The Wild Wolfs animal magnetism or is it how much he looks like Scott Baio in Charles In Charge? Given the producers talent, what the hell was he thinking to sign off on that…. If i were G.R.R.Martin I’d be pitchfork mad and do a Pulp Fiction and send in ther real Wolf.

  • Small nitpick.

Quickly, before she married Ned, Catelyn Tully was engaged to Brandon. She was happy with the match, but Littlefinger, who grew up at Riverrun alongside the Tully siblings as a ward of their father, Hoster, was jealous.

Where is the indication where Catelyn was happy with the match?

  • there’s a lot of rubbish fan-fiction being generated by fans of ASOIAF [well, by fans of everything, let’s be honest] but this is really promising. i imagine it could be quite good actually.

i think i recall reading that GRRM is not terribly happy about fan-fiction in general, but has decided to live with it. [and moreover that he now considers HBO’s GOT as itself fan-fiction. think about that.]
