Game of Thrones trailer recreated in Skyrim
By Ani Bundel
Using hundreds of individual mods, YouTuber UpIsNotJump recreated the full original trailer for Game of Thrones Season 1. Even more impressively, they did it using the original Skyrim game, not the spiffy new re-released special edition that came out recently.
Faces and outfits were used from over 260 different mods for the game that have come out over the years. Yeah it’s a little blocky, but considering the limitations of the original game, it’s very well done.
From the YouTube description:
"I have used Skyrim to recreate Game of Thrones at last. I am starting with the season 1 trailer but I will most likely do every Game of Thrones trailer as time goes on. This video features over 260 Skyrim mods so that every Game of Thrones asset from the Season 1 trailer looks just right."
For comparison’s sake, here is the original trailer from 2011. A more innocent time for all involved, no?
This isn’t the first time that Skyrim users have recreated parts of Game of Thrones. A couple years back, someone made the opening credits scene using Skyrim as well.
Of course, that’s slightly easier (slightly!), mostly because it doesn’t involve people. Making believable people in video games is still a frontier that hasn’t been conquered—as you can see from the topmost video, the cartoony look just becomes more refined, but not actually realistic.
Personally, my favorite recreation of anything Game of Thrones involve Minecraft, partly because the block-building game lends itself so well to the opening sequence, and partly because I just think Minecraft is cool.
Of course, if they attempted to make the Season 1 trailer out of Minecraft, it probably wouldn’t work so well. But I think some shouldone just consider that a challenge.
