Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick) is one of only three characters on Game of Thrones to actually kill a White Walker. Fearing nothing, Kendrick is the perfect guide to show people around one of the interactive Game of Thrones fan events HBO is putting on in a variety of cities over the next few weeks—it’s the network’s way of celebrating the release of the Game of Thrones Season 6 home box set.
The events feature recreations of sets and props, as well as virtual reality simulations that let fans insert themselves into scenes from Season 6. (Burn down a Dothraki temple! Emerge from under a pile of bodies in the Battle of the Bastards! Etc.) While showing Vulture around the event at Astor Place in New York City, Kendrick placed her hand on a weirwood tree.
"Sorry, no. No visions yet. Wait, no. Let me see. A vision … I see … that season seven is going to be really great! I think that’s what the tree is telling me!"
Kendrick took a photo in front of the door where Hodor made his last stand, joking that she should have done this bit for Halloween. Too soon, Ellie Kendrick, too soon.
Looping back around to that whole “only the third person to kill a White Walker” thing, Kendrick talked a bit about the weapons hanging on the wall of the cave.
"It’s a shame you can’t wield that. I’d love to take a swing with that. They don’t let the actors use the proper blades, obviously. Our amazing props department makes different versions for us, to rehearse with and to use on the show, and sometimes they’re real but with blunted blades. You only get something sharp if you need to cut something."
The event’s stay in New York is finished, but it’s coming to two more US cities. It’ll be in Grant Park in Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27. Then it’s on to Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10. The event will be open from 12:30 pm to 8:00 pm every day.
Also, Vulture tells us that fans can engage in a virtual reality simulation where they defend Castle Black from invaders with a digital bow and arrow while Kit Harington shouts encouragement in their ear. So clearly, this is a must-attend.
