Fans are re-scoring the new season 7 promo with songs from the show

The first official promo for Game of Thrones season 7 premiered last Friday, and it went over very well. At over 13 million views and counting, fans can’t get enough of Jon, Dany, and Cersei taking their slow walks toward their respective thrones.

They were a little more divided on the choice of music for the promo — a remixed version of James’ early ’90s alt-rock hit “Sit Down.” HBO has always scored its Game of Thrones trailers with modern tracks, from Florence and the Machine for season 2…

…all the way to Chris Isaak’s version of “Wicked Game” for season 6.

It’s an odd choice, using modern music for a show so firmly rooted in medieval times, but it’s a choice the network has stuck to. But not everyone’s a fan. Below, two fans below have scored the promo trailer with different sections from “Light of the Seven,” that track that played over the first part of the season 6 finale, when Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor.

First, using the early part of “Light of the Seven” brings the mood down considerably.

Those are suddenly some very mellow walks.

On the other hand, using the final part of “Light of the Seven” pumps up the drama. This is really well-timed, too.

I enjoyed the music in the promo, but I’ve always wondered why the producers don’t just ask show composer Ramin Djawadi to write something cool for the trailers. His music fits like a glove — these re-scored videos prove it.

Another fan re-scored the promo with a choir version of “The Rains of Castamere.” Again, the mood is mellow.

Not sure I love that deep vocal toward the end, but points for creativity. Now if someone could pair it with Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” or something, that would be great.
