Game of Thrones Astrolabe Collector’s Edition to Debut at San Diego Comic-Con
Insight Editions, in collaboration with Sideshow Collectibles, has announced the launch of their exclusive line of collectible products at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Among many other collectibles making their debut in San Diego is the Game of Thrones Astrolabe, aka the spinning sun cage thing from the opening sequence of the show.
"This new venture will combine the quality and artistry that has become synonymous with Insight Editions’ award-winning legacy of publishing innovations with Sideshow Collectibles figures. This unique line, called INSIGHT COLLECTIBLES, can be accessed through InsightEditions.com. The first three titles in the line, which will be available at Comic-Con, are Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report, Harry Potter: The Monster Book of Monsters Official Film Prop Replica, and Game of Thrones: Astrolabe Collector’s Edition."
Setting up at booth number 1703, Insight Editions will have signings with authors and illustrators every day of the Con. You can find a complete list of author/illustrators who will be present for signing by visiting the Insight Editions SDCC schedule.
The astrolabe stands just over 13 inches high and is fully articulated. The sigils of the Great Noble Houses of Westeros adorn each ring in ornate detail, and the center ring is intricately engraved with the history of both Westeros and Essos. This limited edition astrolabe comes with a price tag of $495.
The direwolf of House Stark, the lion of House Lannister, the stag of House Baratheon, and of course the dragon of House Targaryen support the base of the astrolabe itself.
"Each is finely crafted and highly detailed, from the direwolf’s coat to the dragon’s talons. The astrolabe’s weathered finish makes it look and feel like an object from the world of Game of Thrones."
Included with the astrolabe is a special limited edition of Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros, which features an exclusive slipcase that is signed by renowned pop-up engineer Matthew Reinhart. This pop-up book includes five spreads that fold out to create an extremely neat pop-up map of Westeros that is perfect for displaying.
The book also contains numerous mini-pops from the show, such as direwolves, White Walkers, giants, and dragons. Each mini-pop is accompanied by descriptive text that tells the rich history of the Seven Kingdoms.
