The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy got an exclusive first look at Risk: Game of Thrones Edition, an idea it’s a little remarkable hasn’t come to fruition before now, given the show’s preoccupation with warfare. Anyway, this edition of Risk was created by USAopoly/Hasbro in conjunction with HBO. In this version, players will vie for control of the Seven Kingdoms and of the Iron Throne, instead of for world domination.

"The game has more than 650 pieces, including two custom game boards, seven sculpted armies, seven player boards and 28 character cards."

Each army is composed of 45 pieces. Each of the seven houses available to choose from (Martell, Stark, Baratheon, Lannister, Tyrell, Targaryen, and Ghiscari) has a piece designed to represent a one-unit army, a piece designed to represent a three-unit army, and a “Seat of Power” piece. Behold:

There are two game boards involved: one of Westeros and one of Essos. 3-5 players can vie for control of the Iron Throne using the Westeros board in the War of the Five Kings game, while two players can go at it as Houses Targaryen and Ghiscari over on Essos (yes, we know that House Ghiscari isn’t actually a thing—just go with Hasbro on this one). And of course, players can combine both maps and bring all seven houses into play.

Meanwhile, character cards allows the player to use the battle skills of four of the most powerful members of each house. The Daenerys Targaryen card, for example, can be played when declaring an invasion, and lets players replace all 6-sided dice with 8-sided dice, while the Cersei Lannister card allows players to draw an extra territory card if they conquer three or territories in one turn.

There are many other special features to Risk: Game of Thrones Edition, including:

"Territory cards that let you stake your claim on the lands you rule."

"Maester cards for using tactical skills and the wisdom of a Maester in battle."

"Objective cards to complete conquests in pursuit of the Iron Throne."

"Gold dragon coins to collect for wealth and purchasing power, like a Lannister who always pays his debts."

"Special unit tokens for military deployment to outnumber and outmaneuver opponents in battle."

Risk: Game of Thrones Edition will be on shelves this August, and will retail for $74.95. Conquering the known world from A Song of Ice and Fire over the course of a couple of game nights outta kill some time before the show comes back on, right?
