By Barry Rice
Earlier tonight, LEGO held a special preview event in San Diego for their upcoming videogame, LEGO Dimensions, which features multiple LEGO licenses (including Doctor Who) coming together in one game.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
Doctor Who was the focus on the night, with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez, and Steven Moffat surprising attendees by appearing onstage at the event. Capaldi, Coleman, and Gomez will lend their voices to the game as the Twelfth Doctor, Clara, and Missy, respectively.
The first footage of the game featuring Doctor Who was then shown to the crowd, along with the release of new details about the game. Here’s all of the information we’ve been able to glean:
- All twelve Doctors and the War Doctor are playable in the game, but only Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor will speak (presumably only in cutscenes)
- When playing as the Doctor, if you die, you will regenerate into the First Doctor and then cycle through to the Twelfth Doctor again
- The TARDIS interior will change, depending on which Doctor you’re playing. For example, when playing as the first Doctor, the control room is a black and white representation of the Hartnell-era TARDIS set
- There is a jukebox in the TARDIS that will allow you to choose which arrangement of the Doctor Who theme song you wish to hear
- LEGO Dimensions Starter Packs go on sale September 27 for $99.99 (the starter pack is required before buying the additional Doctor Who packs)
- There will be five Starter Packs available: Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Wii U
- The Doctor Who Level Pack containing the Twelfth Doctor, TARDIS, and K9 goes on sale November 3 for $29.99
- A Doctor Who Fun Pack containing a Dalek and a Cyberman will go on sale January 19 for $14.99
- All five Starter Packs and the two Doctor Who packs can be pre-ordered now at GameStop

The demands and the ambition that the game makers have imposed upon themselves are very high; they’ve given themselves the task of creating something that’s very entertaining, very exciting, and dramatic. So I think as long as we’re trying to make material to a high standard, then it is good. If we’re just going to use these characters as marketing devices that aren’t particularly thought-through or exciting, then no. But that’s not where we are, and that’s the really exciting thing.”Last, in case you missed it, here’s the awesome new trailer for Doctor Who LEGO Dimensions, featuring the Twelfth Doctor teaming up with Batman, Wlydstyle, and Gandalf, and jumping around with Homer Simpson and Doc Brown!Stay tuned for any additional updates and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the very latest! What do you think?
