Thousands Turn Out For Peñíscola Extra Casting

By now, these sorts of stories are becoming de rigueur for Game of Thrones. Casting for extras for Season 6 occurred at the beginning of the week in Peñíscola, and once again the lines stretched on for a half a mile as thousands of locals turned out in the hope that they could have a bit role on the series.

According to the Gnomes National News Service (Yes, really. Their news services is run by Gnomes.)

About 2,000 people, mostly residents in the town and nearby, joined the queue, but Málaga-based producer Modexpor had very specific requirements: extras, male and female, had to be ‘typically Mediterranean-looking’. Auditions took six hours, including a break for lunch, as the crew scrutinised candidates for 600 female and 600 male parts.

Though the plan was to cast about 1,200 people, in the end the News Service reports that the production cast a few over that number, for contingency reasons.

Those cast will report back at the end of September for costume fittings, with an eye on filming dates in the first week-and-a-half of October, the 1st through the 9th. As always, Game of Thrones tourists, mark your calendars, and book your flights accordingly.
