Actor update: Natalie Dormer is a scandalous lady, Harry Lloyd a lost boy

Since Viserys Targaryen was memorably executed via molten gold back in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, actor Harry Lloyd has forged an interesting path for himself. Yes, he’s done the traditional British actor thing and appeared in BBC programs like Wolf Hall and in respectable period dramas like The Theory of Everything, but he also traded directly on his Game of Thrones notoriety to produce a withering satirical online series called “Supreme Twitter.” Now, he’s starring in an indie drama called Big Significant Things, about a guy who takes a road trip through the American south shortly before he and his girlfriend move across the country.

It would seem that Lloyd has a gift for acting hapless and desperate. Whether it’s modern-day America or ye olden times in Westeros, he doesn’t seem comfortable in his own skin. Entertainment Weekly snagged an exclusive clip from the movie, in which Lloyd’s character embarrasses himself in front of teenagers. It’s awkward.

Also, it’s always interesting to hear a British actor do an American accent. Big Significant Things is available on VOD and playing in select theaters.

Across the pond, Natalie Dormer is sticking to the respectable period drama thing with the starring role in the BBC’s The Scandalous Lady W. She’ll play Lady Worsley, a real-life heiress who tried to divorce her husband for her lover at a time when the law didn’t make that easy. “A woman couldn’t file for divorce in the 1780s,” Dormer said in an interview about the role with Express. “She had to wait for the man to initiate proceedings, so this is how a man would punish his wife.”

In case anyone was worried, Dormer assured Express that the series would also include “love, wealth and sex, and all those fun things!” So that’s good to know. The first episode of The Scandalous Lady W will air on August 20 on the BBC.

Finally, we have a new tidbit regarding Maisie Willliams’ upcoming guest spot on Doctor Who. Previously, it had been speculated that Williams would be playing somebody from the Doctor’s storied past. However, according to new reports, she’ll be playing “a brand-new character, not someone from the Doctor’s past.” That is all. Carry on.
