Game of Thrones supercuts and mashups are as inevitable as winter, and now that we’re between seasons, fans have a lot more time to craft them. It’s either that or go outside, and I’ll be damned if I let that happen.
Anyway, we’ve got two fun ones for you. First up, the always reliable Ozzy Man, Ozzy Man Reviews, has scored select scenes from Season 5 with music and sound effects from old school videogames. The usual suspects all show up: your Super Mario Bros., your Street Fighter, your Mega Man… Also, as per usual, the resulting mix is strangely compelling, especially when tinny sound effects are overlaid onto scenes where they’re extremely inappropriate.
No amount of block-smashing sound effects from Super Mario Bros. is going to make Cersei’s walk of shame any less harrowing, but I did enjoy the use of the underwater Mario theme for the Stone Men scene with Tyrion.
Next, Jason Zucker has put together a delightful mashup of Game of Thrones and Parks and Recreation, entitled Starks and Desecration, for Decider. If you’re a fan of Parks and Recreation, the juxtaposition of one of the most joyful shows on television with one of the most grim could throw you out of balance, but it’s probably worth it.
Also, because I never miss an opportunity to pimp Parks and Recreation, watch this and this and this. The show has its share of Game of Thrones references, and you could do worse if you’re looking for a way to kill time before Season 6.
Finally, a look into Game of Thrones future, courtesy of Parks and Recreation.
