Yesterday, the Creative Arts Emmys were held in Los Angeles, at the Microsoft Theater. This prelude run up to the main Primetime Emmy Awards show is where the bulk of the technical awards are handed out, from Lighting and Sound to Costume and Special Effects. It’s also (for some reason) where they put the Guest Star turns on television shows by big named actors, mixed in with such specialized categories like “Outstanding Structured Reality Program” and “Outstanding Commercial.” Diana Rigg was nominated in that category this season for the show. Sadly, she lost.
Though Game of Thrones gets nominated in dozens of categories every year (twenty four alone for Season 5) the Creative Arts Emmys are where the show wins the bulk of its awards. Last night, of those record 24 nominations, 17 of them were on the docket. Of that, Game of Thrones took home eight, the most of any program that evening. That helped propel HBO to take home the most wins of any channel, 29 in all. (That’s double the second place finisher, which was NBC with 11.)
We’ve got the results listed below–or you can wait until September 19th to find out who won, when the show airs on FFX at 8pm. The Primetime Emmy Awards air live the next night, September 20th, on FOX. Game of Thrones will be up for their other seven nominations that night, which include Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress nominations for Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey, along with Outstanding Director nods for Jeremy Podeswa and David Nutter, and Outstanding Writing for Benioff and Weiss.
