Girona Confirmed For Oldtown, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Spotted

The major filming this weekend isn’t happening in Girona, but rather at the Castell de Santa Florentina, which closed its doors to tourists last week to prepare for the three days of filming. Sadly, since these scenes, which are set at House Tarly in Horn Hill, are all interior work, and not accessible to outsiders, we’ll have to wait and see if anything (including who is playing Randyll!) leaks once filming has ended.

While that’s going on, Girona is prepping to film a major scene rumored to involve Margaery and Jaime Lannister on the cathedral steps. And just to confirm the spoilers are correct about the major participants, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was spotted in Girona by fans, along with Benioff and Weiss.

Massive green screens are being set up where the Sept will be inserted in post production.

Diari de Girona confirms that the actual scene will be shot this coming Tuesday, with rehearsals for some of the more difficult parts on Monday. Apparently one of the pieces they want to rehearse involves both Jaime and Margaery on one horse. (For details on what else will be happening in the scene, check the link here, but beware—major spoilers!) They also say that Dean Charles Chapman (Tommen Baratheon) will be part of the scene.

Meanwhile, in other spoilery news, Los Siete Reinos has confirmed that Girona will not just be standing in for King’s Landing and Braavos, but since the city is large and diverse enough, it will be home to yet a third location, and the one we thought Girona was going to stand in for from the beginning: Oldtown. Actually, it already has.

This is not that big a shocker, since we knew that Sam and Gilly were spotted in town a couple of days ago. The question we had is if this was the scene where they have a layover in Braavos on their way to the Citadel, or if they were actually going to be filming Oldtown in Girona. Turns out, it’s the latter. (Though some of us are holding out hope that the former also might be involved.) LSR says they don’t have too many details as of yet as to what scene was filmed already in Girona, except that it involves just Sam and a maester (no extras involved) and it probably took place inside, since no one spotted any filming in the streets. We can be sure though that whatever the scene was, it takes pace earlier in the season rather than later, as the filming that’s happening now at Castell de Santa Florentina is slated for episodes 5 and 6 of Season 6.
