Emmy watchers last night might have noticed a couple of absent friends from the Game of Thrones red carpet lineup. Though the show won several of its categories last night, the one they didn’t win, Supporting Actress, had someone missing from their seat. Emilia Clarke, nominated along with Lena Headey, was not in attendance. Rather than let people think she assumed herself too good for the proceedings, she took to Instagram to explain her absence.
The “Rolling without my Homies” hashtag is partly because, unlike years past, Emilia no longer has her Essos crew with her wherever she goes. Iain Glenn (Jorah) and Michiel Huisman (Daario) are filming a road buddy comedy trying to find her. Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) and Jacob Anderson (Greyworm) are back in Meereen. And until CGI gets done with him, Drogon is just a flame thrower on a 40 foot boomlift.
A small bit of digging on Instagram brings up Clarke’s location stamp as “Olite,” which lies just north of Bardenas Reales Natural Park, and a thirty minute drive from the town of Valtierra, where the production is making its home base between going out to the desert lands of the park to film. This might explain why those looking for the Mother of Dragons as the production prepped for set up weren’t able to find her, sparking rumors that she might not be filming there at all. But for those who might have doubted Navarra was standing in for the Dothraki lands, here’s your proof.
Local outlets are hoping that Clarke’s presence in the city might mean it too will be part of the show. But only Bardenas Reales Natural Park is listed as a filming location.
Though we now know Clarke in in the area, it doesn’t seem that we’ve got any pictures or spoilers as of yet out of Navarra. It may be that the desert location is such that it is near impossible for fans to get any either, which will help keep at least one plot for this season totally under wraps. Well chosen, production.
