Four days of Dothraki filming in the Bardenas Reales start today

Emilia Clarke may be lost in Spain, but she has good reason to be, with Season 6 filming pressing on in the country despite a pit stop to pick up a few golden statuettes on Sunday. Noticias de Navarra has some info about location filming taking place in the Bardenas Reales semi-desert in southeast Navarre over the next four days (September 22nd to September 25th).

Details are understandably sparse—the 400 extras chosen for the scene that will film in the Bardenas Reales have signed the usual non-disclosure agreements, and many of the residential and tourist areas are closed off to ensure maximum security and secrecy—but the site notes that wardrobe tests from Valtierra indicated that the scenes would be Dothraki-related, as the costumes fall into the categories of “Dothraki” and “slave” (captives taken by force during a Dothraki invasion, no doubt). Fresco Film Services helped pick the locations, including a lagoon near the Castildetierra, a beautiful natural rock formation that should serve as an ideal resting spot for the nomadic tribe of horse-riders.

Speaking of horses, the production company has also installed stables for the 67(!) horses that will be part of the scene. Apparently, these horses put on quite a show for the tourists who were hanging out in the Bardenas Reales natural reserve. All that mental image needs now is Emilia Clarke swooping in singing a song to the tune of “Prince Ali” titled “Khaleesi.”

So now we know what Clarke will be doing in Spain for the next few days; perhaps while she’s in town she can find some Spanish-language gangster rap to really help get her into character.
