First Game of Thrones Season 6 Picture From Dany’s New Khalasar
By Ani Bundel
Filming began yesterday in the Bardenas Reales semi-desert for Game of Thrones Season 6. As we had suspected ever since the casting notices went out (and really, since we saw pictures of the park itself) this area is standing in for the great wide sweep of Essos that lies between cities, the part inhabited by the nomadic Dothraki tribes. Though the park is a hard desert landscape not really all that amenable to tourists or reporters trying to get a glimpse of what is happening in the upcoming season, Diario De Navarra has managed to bring us the first image snapped by an intrepid onlooker.
According to the article, most of the day’s filming centered around the part of the park known as Bardena Blanca, named that for the layer of white salt that coats most of the area, specifically the plains around La Pisquerra.
One can see here the area of Bardena Blanca where the crew is working.
Eitb.eus has a video showing the areas that are cut off from tourists as part of their report on the show’s filming.
It’s in Spanish, naturally, but it gives an idea of where the production is in relation to some of the more famous landmarks of the park.
