Is Peñíscola Also Braavos? New Areas Added to Shut Down List for Season 6 Filming
By Ani Bundel
As filming at Castillo de Zafra winds down today, Peñíscola finds itself next up on the docket. We are learning of new areas being added to the list of places that will be shut down by the City Council for filming.
But first, an eagle eyed fan noticed that not everything in Peñíscola in labelled as Meereen. As we suspected, those trucks that booked it down from Girona with set pieces did in fact bring one of the other locations with them.
Dragons and Direwolves has an entire spread of pictures from their trip to the city here. The site suggests that the production may just be repurposing some props used when the show shot scenes in Braavos, rather than building Braavos anew somewhere else, but we’ll know soon enough. It also reports that the Artillery Park part of Peñíscola Castle has been shut down along with the Plaza de Armas. We’d heard that rumor before, but it is not clear if it is to be a filming location of not.
Dragons and Direwolves has a good shot of the barriers going up along the wall leading to the Portal Fosc.
It’s also got a good look at that wall extension the show is building, which suggests that the Siege of Meereen may finally happen.
Meanwhile, Todo Peñíscola has three new locations listed for shut down. It believes these are not areas of filming, but are for staging purposes. They are Plaza de la Llotja Vella, Place des Bous, and City Hall Square. Place des Bous in particular seems to be a staging area, since it is next to both the castle and adjacent to a conveniently placed hotel. It will be shut down starting today through the 7th, and only guests of the hotel, restaurants, and delivery vehicles will be allowed in. The Plaza de la Llotja Vella closes tomorrow through the 6th. City Hall Square will only be closed on Monday the 5th.
