A Roundup Of Photos As Shooting Wraps In Peñíscola

Yesterday’s revelations came at the end of Game of Thrones’ Season 6 stint in Peñíscola. Filming in the area has now wrapped, leaving the production a day or two to catch its breath before it dives headlong into filming in Almería.

But before we’re completely done with the second-to-last shooting location on Game of Thrones‘ long Spanish journey, let’s take a look at a round-up of photos from yesterday’s filming.

Please be aware: this post contains spoilers.

Are you sure?

So yesterday we got our first shot of Shae in costume. We’ve got another one today which has her carrying a prop and gives slightly more context to the proceedings.

Yeah, she’s carrying a basket of flowers. That might seem insignificant, but to me it suggests several things:

My first guess when we saw Kekilli was that she was going to be (to steal the parlance of another show) Head!Shae: a hallucination in Tyrion’s head, either brought on by hunger, guilt, grief, booze, or some combination of the above. Here, she is not only dressed in the outfits worm by ex-slaves in Meereen, but she’s clearly selling things in the street. Could she be a lookalike? Doubtful it’s a twin (that’s not only massively unlikely, but since the show made her Lorathi, why would her twin be in Meereen?), but remember, we’re completely off Tyrion’s storyline from the books now, so the show could really do whatever it pleased. Also remember that George R.R. Martin talked about how much he loved Sibel Kekilli as Shae when he met her, and was very grieved to have to accept that he’d already killed off the character on the page. Perhaps this is something he added to the books afterwards as a way to bring her back? Or that the producers added to the show because they wanted to find a way to bring her in again?

Also, Los Siete Reinos has identified the director of these scenes. It’s Mark Mylod, which puts this scene with Shae squarely in the back half of the season, since he’s directing episodes 7 and 8.

LSR also report that Daniel Sackheim was seen earlier in Peñíscola, which means we’ll also be seeing Meereen sometime in episodes 3 or 4.

And finally, from today, Peter Dinkage and Conleth Hill, heading out of the city.

Done, done, on to the next one.
