New Picture out of Banbridge as Game of Thrones Films Riverrun Scenes

We’ve got a new image out of Banbridge, Northern Ireland, as the long-awaited and slightly delayed filming of the siege of Riverrun is underway.

That’s quite a fog of war that’s come up again. Unfortunately, we don’t have anything closer, so we can’t tell who is actually filming, or where. Still, Thrones watchers are planning to do their best for us.

But there does seem to be one think that’s been cleared up. We had a tweet the other day that mentioned Sophie Turner was in Banbridge, which led us to speculate that perhaps she was connecting with Jaime and Brienne, both of whom are also reportedly in the area to film. But later reports revealed that there are two units filming in the area, and that she is actually filming her own scenes in the area, in a separate location.

Banbridge has stood in for many different parts of Westeros of the years. The siege is the largest thing the production filmed here, but in terms of the Riverlands landscape, Sansa could be nearby on her own adventure, never actually getting near the Tully homestead. Or perhaps she is heading for it, realizes there is a siege and turns away, much like Arya did when she she heard her Aunt Lysa was dead, and therefore never got close to the Eyrie to see her sister.

Also, it looks like Alfie Allen isn’t done shooting Theon material for Season 6 yet, as he was spotted heading back to filming areas the other day.

Allen also threw this picture of his on-screen sister Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) up on Instagram.

It seems like the Greyjoy siblings have been hanging out together, chilling and eating monster cupcakes (the exact same cupcakes are on Whelan’s Instagram).

One actor not in the area? Kit Harington. I suppose after nine weeks in Saintfield, he’s probably ready for a break.
