Game of Thrones Does Extra Pick Up Shots in Spain

Though principle filming in Spain came to an end last week, it turns out that the production wasn’t all the way done yet. Some of the crew stayed behind and did some extra pick-up shot work in various Spanish locations, neither of which we even knew were going to be on the docket this year.

As reported by Los Siete Reinos, over the weekend the production made their way back to the Alcazar of Sevilla. Many may recall that the Alcazar stood in for the Water Gardens of Dorne last season. The Europa Press suggests that the number of locations shots was actually greater than last season, and that many were in public places that would have required weeks of permitting and set up if it had been used to film actors doing scenes. The assumption is that these are B-roll clips that the show is taking in part to help with the visual transition from what we recognize on screen as Dorne to the Alcazaba of Almería, where the show did its primary on-location filming for Dorne this season.

The production also did a stop over in Cordoba, at the Roman Bridge. This was another location that was filmed last year without any actors, an it stood in as the shell for the CGI extravaganza that was the bridge of Volantis. One would assume that this is for the same purpose, and that we will be at least passing through the Essos city again this year. Hopefully, this time there won’t be any random kidnappings.
