Daenerys Targaryen is one of the most powerful women in Essos, and if she ever does figure out how to get herself across the Narrow Sea, she’ll instantly be one of the most powerful in Westeros. But it was the actress who plays her, Emilia Clarke, who showed up for The Wrap’s 7th Los Angeles Power Women Breakfast yesterday.

After posing on the red carpet in a fabulous unicorn and animal-print dress, Clarke found herself showered with the usual questions about the upcoming sixth season. And though she was careful, as always, not to give away too many details, she did confirm something we’ve suspected from the spoilers: Dany is going back to her roots, at least when it comes to taste in men.

Speaking to The Wrap about the Dothraki horde that enveloped her at the end of Season 5, she says “They’re the Qoy Qoyi. Blood of my blood, all that. It’s back to Kahl Drogo-ness of it all.” (For the Dothraki students in the room, the full phrase is Qoy qoyi anhoon. The anhoon is unspoken, and taken as understood.) “Back to the muscly men. Yay. Happy day.”

Oh, dear. Sorry Daario. Looks like you’re going to be out-muscled when it comes to space in Dany’s bedroom.

As for what will happen, she stays very vague: “We left on a bit of a cliffhanger. Anything that you don’t expect to happen is happening.” Well, that’s very helpful, isn’t it?

Clarke also spoke about how she prepared for the role of Daenerys way back when by watching “as many strong women” as possible. Apparently, Cate Blanchette’s performance as the Queen of England in 1998’s Elizabeth was a particular inspiration, as it provided a model of “a real, strong female leader.”

Queen Elizabeth, inspiring the Mother of Dragons.

Clarke also talked a little about sexism in Hollywood.

"People perceive there is a difference in how men and women should be treated. It seems to not be discussed. You just begin to see that you, as a girl, are treated differently, even when you’re playing the Mother of Dragons."

Still, it sounds like Clarke is taking a few notes from Daenerys on how to combat this. “Being able to play this strong girl, you can kind of take notes and see how I can apply that to my own life.”
