Good news for fans of A Game of Thrones: a passionate group of actors and producers are trying to film the book’s iconic scene at the Tower of Joy…and no, this has nothing to do with the Tower of Joy scene HBO filmed for Game of Thrones Season 6. This group is raising money on Indiegogo to make a fan film versions of events.
The project is being helmed by producer/fight designer Paul Suda, who will also play Arthur Dayne. Michael Schatz is directing and editing, and Kenan Heppe will compose the tunes and play Howland Reed. The team also has their Ned Stark in actor Jeff Odachowski, as well as actors playing Gerold Hightower, Lyanna Stark, and the rest of characters present on that fateful day.
With

26%
100% of its $22,000 goal. Congratulations!
Here’s the main problem that I can see the project running into: we know we’re getting a Tower of Joy flashback in Game of Thrones Season 6. With HBO doing the Tower of Joy scene with its huge budget, there’s no doubt that the network version will outshine Suda and Schatz’s take.
However, it’s worth noting that this particular project seems different from what we’ve seen HBO filming for Season 6. If there’s one thing we learned from last season’s flashback scene—the one where young Cersei visits Maggy the Frog—it’s that HBO may not give us all the minute details we want from the books, which is where a properly done fan-film can step up to the plate.
If Suda and Schatz can get their project funded and produce a quality film that depicts the Tower of Joy scene exactly how Ned described it in A Game of Thrones, it could be excellent. But, as I said, they need to get funded first, which is where you and I come in. There’s a list of rewards for contributing to the campaign, which range from heartfelt thanks to wrap party attendance to producer credits a chance to win the prop version of Dawn, Arthur Dayne’s sword.
